Explore. Experience. Educate.

3E Community

We are a select team of experiential educators.
We tailor-make transformative trips for select schools
and prepare staff for safe explorations and lasting learning.

Our Story

The 3E Community was founded to raise the bar of experiential education in Indonesia. Comprised of facilitators, program managers, HR managers, education directors, safety training providers, site operators, food and transportation consultants, and Others, the more we worked the more we all became convinced we can do it better.

Soon enough, an Inner Circle coalesced and created on- and off-line space for our community of like-minded educators to put our heads and hearts to the task of establishing a company that designs life-changing experiences for participants while also providing a living wage for our employees and honoring local cultures.

We invite you to join our community. Let’s grow better together.

Our Values

We value teamwork, hard work, stewardship of our environment, curiosity about cultures, and loving critique. We value learners’ processes, knowing that each of us learn in different ways, at different times, and with different supports. We value the trust placed in us by our partners and the time we get to spend together in community.

Our Mission

We strive to create custom experiential education programming in collaboration with our community of local affiliates to engage the leaders of tomorrow in thinking about problems, possibilities, and positionalities. We endeavor to prompt them to process all they’ve learned and bring it with them throughout their lives.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We believe every interaction between two people involves teaching and learning. The learning impact of interactions depends on the people and content involved. As such, we are selective about who we put in front of students – we choose facilitators wisely and invest heavily in their pedagogical development, safety certification, and language fluency. We’re also pretty picky about the places we take participants, the programs we plan, and the providers we affiliate with.

In addition to all that, though, there are just a few features of experiential education we feel are quintessentially important to impactful learning:

Making Community Agreements

Drawing from Restorative Justice Practices, we begin every program with a purposeful discussion of expectations we have for ourselves, our traveling group, and our hosts – then discuss what structure and supports we need to honor those agreements. Getting everyone on the same page fosters meaningful connections, shared values, and collective growth.

Honoring Cultural Difference

There’s a difference between a zoo and a jungle. Similarly, there’s a difference between cultural appropriation and immersion. Just shoving costumed people in front of participants or participants into cultural activities isn’t kind and doesn’t develop humility, tolerance, curiosity, or care. By overtly surfacing such tensions, we prime people to grow better together.

Transferring Learning

Explorations differ from vacations. Too many experiential education providers overpack programs with as many activities as possible and aim merely to run kids ragged. By centering local experts in our programs and allowing time to build schema and discuss observations, we enable participants to settle in and take time to make meaning so their learning lasts.

Circles Over Standards

We embrace the power of circles—fluid, interconnected, and ever-evolving. Our approach transcends rigid norms and instead celebrates collaboration, diversity, and adaptability.

Just Have Fun

As Jonthon’s mom (also a teacher) once put it, “if you aren’t having fun, they won’t be either.” Our values and mission are easily realized because we chose work we love and work with people we love.
